In the heart of Ferrara, just outside the city wall, an old store has become a new, modern house. It has been really intriguing working on this complex, facing the city wall but lacking of space in front of them. The building facade has been therefore moved 12 meters backwards, allowing the creation of a new garden from which one can admire the ‘500 walls. The interior has the same relation with the walls, thanks to the big windows facing the garden. This project has also given the possibility to work with natural materials such as cork and wool, used for the building insulation, which have proven to be a really good choice to improve the internal comfort and achieve a better energy class.

When we projected the house we had to obtain as much surface as possible to accomodate the client’s family, while respecting the local rules. Thanks to an accurate implants planning, which have permitted to achieve the best energy class, we have been able to build a 200 sq.mt house. There are three different volumes playing together, different in shapes and material: wood, plaster, zinc, and there are nice views from the house to the land outside.
